Would you recommend most patients with hypothyroidism to consider a statin or other lipid lowering therapy?

Great question. No. They are not hyperlipidemic long enough in most cases. So treating the thyroid disease is the key. The statins won't work well if they are hypothyroid because they need thyroid to make LDL receptors which is how statins reduce LDL, by making more receptors. P
